Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort operates three Pete Dye courses on tribal land 35 miles northwest of the Strip, and the resort's pricing structure makes it possible to play all three in a single trip without approaching the cost of a single round at Shadow Creek. Adding TPC Las Vegas, the PGA Tour facility in the desert canyons northwest of the city, creates a four-round itinerary that covers the full range of mid-tier Las Vegas golf at a total estimated cost of $1,500 to $2,500 per person. That range includes three nights of mid-range lodging, four rounds with carts, meals, a half-day activity, and a rental car.
Fly into Harry Reid International Airport and pick up the rental car, which is necessary for the entire trip as both Paiute and TPC are located well outside the Strip corridor. Check into the Marriott's Grand Chateau on East Harmon Avenue, a non-gaming, non-smoking property with a rooftop pool and Strip views, no resort fee, and nightly rates between $150 and $250.
The centrepiece day of the trip. Morning tee time on the Sun Mountain Course, the middle child of the three Paiute layouts.
Drive 20 minutes from the Strip to TPC Las Vegas for the morning round. The Bobby Weed and Raymond Floyd design is set in desert canyons with six sets of tees that accommodate all skill levels.
Check out and return to Harry Reid International, a 15-minute drive from the Grand Chateau. Morning flights are easily accommodated.
A rental car is essential. Paiute is 35 to 40 minutes from the Strip, and TPC Las Vegas is 20 minutes northwest. Both drives pass through open desert terrain that is worth observing rather than treating as dead time. The Marriott's Grand Chateau eliminates the resort fee that most Strip hotels charge, which saves $35 to $50 per night. For groups willing to base in Henderson rather than on the Strip, the Residence Inn by Marriott in Henderson offers all-suite rooms with kitchens at $110 to $180 per night, reducing the lodging cost further while positioning the Serket and Reflection Bay courses within a shorter drive if the itinerary is modified. Off-peak summer rates at Paiute drop to an estimated $99 to $179, making a summer version of this trip possible at roughly 40 percent below peak pricing for golfers willing to start before dawn.
