SkyWheel Myrtle Beach
The SkyWheel stands 187 feet above the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk at 1110 North Ocean Boulevard. Its 42 climate-controlled glass gondolas complete three full rotations per ride, each lasting roughly 15 minutes. At the top, the view extends north toward Cherry Grove and south past the piers toward Surfside Beach, with the full sweep of the Grand Strand's coastline visible on clear days.
Evening rides offer the better experience. The wheel is lit with LED color sequences after dark, and the view of the shoreline shifts from daytime sprawl to a clean line of lights along the coast. The VIP gondola ($99 for up to four passengers) includes a non-rotating, glass-bottom cabin and priority boarding, which eliminates the line that builds on summer evenings.
The SkyWheel operates year-round. Standard hours run Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with extended hours during peak summer weeks.
Lines are shortest on weekday mornings and early afternoons. The boardwalk area around the SkyWheel includes restaurants and shops, making it easy to combine with a broader evening on the oceanfront. Parking along the boardwalk is metered; the nearby parking garages on 9th and 11th Avenues North offer flat-rate evening options.
A short, low-commitment activity that works as a gap-filler between a round and dinner. The evening coastal views from 187 feet justify the stop without requiring significant planning.
